  3. Great to see a book of this nature published, reflecting Michigan in the Civil War. I’ll be sure to purchase one.

Thank you Douglas! As a former history teacher, I personally was amazed by the important role Michigan played in this conflict. I wanted to make this information easily accessible to teachers, families, students. While we don’t go into great detail, I hope we pique their interest in exploring this topic further. Also, the lack of including any Michigan sites in the Civil War Trust Discover Trail prompted this book.

They could find and list sites in the UK, Bermuda, France, but not one Michigan site? H’mmm, let’s see. There is Fort Wayne (still in existence), the Lincoln assassination chair, a floor in a local museum dedicated to the commander of the Michigan Cavalry Brigade General George Armstrong Custer. Gee, I could go on – guess we did in the book, LOL!
